WOOD THRUSH (Hylocichla mustelina) |
| 7 1/2 inches. Breeding range extends south from southern Canada to northern Florida and west from the Atlantic coast to the Missouri River and the eastern regions of the Great Plains. Wood Thrushes spend their winters in Mexico and Central America, mostly in the lowlands along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts from Mexico to Panama. With postures similar to the American Robin, they may be seen hopping around in leaf litter and semi-bare ground under the forest canopy. Wood Thrushes travel an average distance of 2,200 kilometers between their breeding and wintering grounds. |
