Seattle Sustainable Coffee Campaign

Coffee is the second most valuable internationally traded commodity in the world and its production has a huge environmental and social impact. By drinking sustainable coffees - shade grown, organic and fairly traded - you help preserve songbird habitat, save the rainforest, provide livable wages to farmers, and much more.

The Sustainable Coffee Campaign began on Earth Day 2001 in Seattle, the city most responsible for the specialty coffee revolution. In this Land of the Latte, the Mecca of Mocha, the Capital of Cappuccino we have the opportunity to purchase and to support coffee companies that carry sustainably grown coffees.

In cooperation with the NW Shade Coffee Campaign, TransFair USA, and other organizations, The Songbird Foundation organized the Seattle Sustainable Coffee Campaign as a pilot to a national campaign that will begin in 2002. Our overall goal is to develop awareness and increased sales of sustainable coffees across the United States.

The Seattle campaign has included radio spots on local stations, billboards and bus signs throughout the city, sustainable coffee tastings at local cafes, and visits from Latin American coffee farmers.

The campaign finale was a benefit concert featuring Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Keb'Mo', Danny O'Keefe and author Tom Robbins.

This Fall 2001, we will continue our Seattle campaign with a series of local music events at cafes throughout the city. Check back for details or join our email list to get updates on events and news.
