First Songbird Foundation Event is Great Start!

In May, 1999 Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne performed at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia in a benefit concert for the Songbird Foundation. The show was sold out weeks in advance and eagerly anticipated by long time fans as well as by the specialty coffee industry which was holding its annual conference in Philadelphia at the same time. That artists of the stature of Bonnie and Jackson are concerned about the way coffee is grown and the effect it has on habitat and species was well noted by the members of the Specialty Coffee Association of America.
Jackson sang a great song written by Jack Tempschin (Jack wrote "Peaceful Easy Feeling" for the Eagles) called "Jazz Bird", an achingly beautiful song about the most natural singers of all, the songbirds.
Bonnie sang a wonderful rendition of Memphis Slim's great song "Mother Earth" with a few new lyrics thrown in.
Danny O'Keefe, the director of the Songbird Foundation, joined both Bonnie and Jackson at the end of the concert for a rousing rendition of "Well, Well, Well" a song written by O'Keefe and Bob Dylan.
All in all the show was a wonderful beginning for the Songbird Foundation.
