When he walked out on stage the sound was deafening and reminiscent of the reaction that the Beatles got so many years ago. The audience was adoring but respectful, and was careful not to inappropriately interrupt. If fact, respect was one of the highlights of the evening, being given by both artists and audience.

John’s guitar playing was more than effective and was an indication that he is not only a wonderful songwriter but also a musician of great depth. He performed songs like “Georgia”, “Neon, Neon”, and “Your Body Is A Wonderland” acoustically with all the technique and feeling that is embodied on the recording, especially on the latter where he played the bass lines simultaneously with the chords. As a fellow guitar player I must admit that he knocked me out.

John brought Bonnie out on his set for a great version of “Come Back To Bed” with the two of them trading licks toe to toe. John is an adept blues player and I suspect we’ll be seeing more of that side of him in the future. The deafening roar that greeted John on his arrival on stage was matched as he left.
